I felt inspired for this shoot by images of Ophelia from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” who due to Hamlet’s actions in the play, ends up in a state of madness that ultimately leads to her drowning. However, if you’ve ever seen the modern film “Ophelia“, I prefer this version of her story where she actually never goes mad, and instead of choosing vengeance (like Hamlet and Laertes) and ultimately in the end of the film lives out the rest of her life peacefully in exile. She’s resourceful, cunning, and determined to not make the same mistakes of others around her. She chooses peace over violence (even though the ones she loves most are wrapped up in vengeance). For this shoot, I wore a vintage nightgown from the early 1900s from Raleigh Vintage.
