“Live Life Unscripted”

Reading Time: 4 minutes

I was out having rooftop cocktails in downtown Durham one night with Nathan, when I looked across the street and saw a retro building, heavily under construction, with the most vibrant, geometric wallpaper I’ve seen in quite a while. I assumed it was the bones of a new startup location, but was relieved to find out that it was actually the interior of one of the 74 rooms inside Durham’s newest lifestyle hotel, Unscripted.

Unscripted, part of the Dream Hotel Group, is a new concept for the group geared towards the adventurous traveler. Unscripted Durham is the flagship location for this concept (way to go Bull City!). Each hotel has a unique style and flair that is meant to appeal to locals and visitors alike.

This location was originally the Jack Tar Motel back in the 1960s and was the place to be in Downtown Durham. Jack Tar said, “prepare to be pampered” with the motel’s rooftop swimming pool and proprietary parking garage, it was a modern marvel for the time.

Unscripted is also committed to offering food and beverage options sourced from local vendors bolstering their commitment to local flavor.

When you walk in the entrance to Unscripted Durham, there’s no check-in desk. Let me tell you how much I love that. You have a team member check you in, via iPad, and you’re off. No lines waiting to check-in at a desk, no formalities. Just casual, quick, and you’re on your way.

The design of the rooms gives tribute to the history of the building with retro, mid-century design. The rooms are fun, vibrant with walnut furniture and custom murals with amazing geometric patterns. Did I mention that each of the rooms has a fully stocked mini bar and Jonathan Adler products? (yes!)

Alright, let’s get to the main event: The rooftop pool.

Can I just live here in this spot? K, thanks.

A great feature is that the rooftop pool is open to the public. Whether you’re a guest of the hotel, or not, you can head up to the pool deck, grab a cocktail, and float around with the swan. I see lots of poolside adventures atop an inflatable swan in my future.

A representative from the hotel reached out and invited me to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for Unscripted Durham on July 19th. I was so pumped to be part of this historic and celebratory event for the city of Durham. It was an amazing day and I was so grateful to be part of it.

Book your stay at Unscripted Durham here – you won’t regret it!
